I've heard rumbling. Ominous rumbling. Angry, ominous rumbling... Alright, enough with the rumbling, already...
The rumbling isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's shows you're engaged. But it is counterproductive and yet equally easy to satisfy. It sounds like this - "I hate you men (sometimes just "you") because you lose weight so easily and I've put on 3 pounds on this stupid diet thingy. Bastard(s)."
I understand totally. There are several things at work here.
1. If you haven't been eating enough til now (and you haven't) and suddenly you are eating enough you're probably putting on muscle weight that you should have had all along. Your body is readjusting. This is going to take a little time. Relax. There are men who've put on weight on this diet thingy, too. I don't want to name names but his initials are Crawford, for one. He's not one bit happy about it, either. There are others. He doesn't actually have a name so I can tell you it's JD. The support group meets on Wednesdays at 4:30.
2. You're athletes. You carry more muscle than little-sissy Barbie women. Don't compare yourselves to your inferiors. They're weak and slow. And they still can't walk in heels...cows...
3. DO NOT let your scale freak you out. All weight is not created equal. Muscle weighs more than fat, you know this. Your goal is to lose body fat, not an arbitrary number of pounds. You're changing your body composition. It takes time. Again, relax.
4. Gauge your body composition changes (see, doesn't that sound better?) by how you feel, how you look, how your clothes fit and how you perform. These are far better guides than pounds on the scale. Look in the mirror. Ask somebody you trust about the changes they see in your body. If you need to, go back and look at your before pics.
Hang in there. It's only been a week and a half plus however long ahead of the lockdown you started early. Even so, a month, maybe? Tops? I know some of you have deadlines. Most of you are also Type A's who need results Now. But you are seeing positive results, I know you are because when I probe a little deeper past the scale-number issue you tell me so. Will you eventually lose scale weight? Yes, you will. Stay focused on the big picture/long view. It is worth it. If for no other reason, what you were doing before wasn't working that well, so why not give this your very best shot. If you want or need more please ask me. Call, write, stop by, whatever it takes.
